Stan Collymore comments on Celtic’s success under Brendan Rodgers

Speaking to The Celtic Star, Stan Collymore has said that he is fed up of people diminishing Brendan Rodgers’s achievements at Celtic.

Rodgers’s side beat Partick Thistle 3-2 on Saturday to move into the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup and, having already won the League Cup this season, it looks distinctly possible that Celtic will win a domestic treble for a second season in succession under the Northern Irishman.

In addition to that, the Hoops will also be hoping for a productive Europa League run, though getting past Zenit St Petersburg in the last 32 represents a big obstacle for the Premiership leaders.

On the whole, the former Liverpool boss has transformed the club since Ronny Deila’s reign but there is a sense that Rodgers’s work in Scotland is not perceived to be as impressive.

Indeed, Craig Bellamy caused controversy North of the border back in September by claiming that nobody in English football cares about what he achieves in Scotland – an attitude that Collymore is sick of reading about.

He told The Celtic Star:

“Sick of reading about “pub side this, mickey mouse league that ” to be honest.

“Building a team with a pittance compared to even average Championship clubs in England while creating a winning culture, managing expectations of a European giant, it’s history and traditions of playing the game, while getting results against teams bankrolled by nation states is an incredible achievement.”

Rodgers’s side turn their attentions to Thursday as Zenit travel to Glasgow for the first leg of their tie, but getting past the Russian giants en route to the last 16 would really make people take notice of Celtic, if they were ignorant to their success under Rodgers before.
