Muaricio Pochettino is expected to be in the market for a new left-back with Danny Rose strongly tipped to leave north London after struggling to regain his first team place following injury and Tierney is a key target.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur may face keen competition from Atletico Madrid in the race to sign Celtic’s and Scotland international Kieran Tierney this summer.
The £20m-rated is a boyhood Celtic fan having been in the ranks since a child and Tierney’s progressed through the club youth system to become one of the best defenders in Scottish football.
Tierney is a vital member of Brendan Rodgers’ starting eleven and despite his tender age, he has already held the captaincy band for Celtic and senior Scotland national team.
His superb performance has alerted clubs here in the Premier League as The Sun reports that Tottenham and Manchester United have been showing strong interest in signing the left-back ahead of the upcoming summer.
Jose Mourinho is also ready to strengthen his full-back positions and Tierney is being considered as a long-term replacement for Ashley Young as Luke Shaw’s future at Old Trafford is in serious doubt.
However, it looks like United and Spurs face fresh competition as the Sun claims that Atletico Madrid are ready to step-up their interest in Tierney by sending scouts to watch him play in the Scottish Cup final this weekend.
The young defender still has five years left on his contract so the newspaper suggests it will take a bid of £20m to tempt Celtic into a deal this summer but that sort of money shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the likes of Spurs, United or Madrid.
