£15m man keen on joining Liverpool move despite club not willing to sell

Liverpool are apparently interested in signing Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross in January in order to add a more attacking element to the centre of the park, according to a report from publication Liga Financial yesterday via Anfield Edition.

Gross has been a great signing for Brighton since he joined the club from Ingolstadt in a £3m deal last summer; but his form has somewhat dropped down this season. The midfielder was instrumental to the Seagulls’ survival last season, netting seven goals and eight assists on route to being named the club’s Player of the Season.

Gross is viewed by Klopp as a cheap alternative to the likes of Nabil Fekir, Houssem Aouar and Kerem Demirbay, who have been linked to moves to Anfield in recent weeks, while his Premier League experience would likely make his integration into the club smoother during a title run in.

Although Gross only penned a new deal to extend his stay at the Amex a few months back, it is thought he would be attainable at around the £15m, especially considering his lacklustre start to the season.

Technically gifted and a free-kick specialist, the German is able to operate in most areas of the midfield and would offer a more creative outlet to Liverpool’s midfield that has been lacking at times.

However, I think it’s fair to say most supporters would be significantly underwhelmed should Gross move to Anfield — having not set the world alight for Brighton this campaign, the 27-year-old seems a player more suited to being a talisman for a club in the lower echelons of the league as opposed to being a squad player at a Champions League side.

Considering Xherdan Shaqiri’s success though following his lowkey move from Stoke in the summer though, Klopp may see something in Gross most of us are missing.
