Having comfortably winning the league title in 2017, Chelsea performance last season was below-par and this has seen them failed in booking a place in the next season’s Champions League.
Achieving back their lost glory, Chelsea will need to strengthen their squad this summer and would consider signing two or three top quality players while the window is still open.
Since the window has been in its full wings, we have seen different players linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and latest speculations according to Spanish news outlet El Gol Digita claims Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio could be on the verge of joining the Blues this summer.
Although, the report mentioned that top European clubs have shown interest in the young winger, but it’s believed Asensio is eyeing a move to England and specifically to join Chelsea.
Seeing the Spaniard who has won two Champions League titles with Madrid keen on joining Chelsea who are playing in the Europa League next season looks stranger. Although, it could be said, the Spaniard is considering playing in the Premier League, which has been dubbed the most competitive league in the world.
Earlier this month, Diario Gol reported that Asensio was a target for Premier League rival Liverpool, who haved valued him around €100million.
Playing in a club that have the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco, Gareth Bale, and Karim Benzema would see Asensio mostly involved on the bench and things could even get worse with speculations claiming the Los Blancos are eyeing move for Paris Saint-Germain’s and Brazilian star Neymar. Therefore, this would see Asensio’s game-time at Bernabeu reduced and seeking a move to where he will be guaranteed regular first team football is a must.
This past season, Asensio could only registered 19 appearances in the La Liga, netting six goals with five assists to his name. He made his world-cup debut for Spain this month against Iran as a second-half substitute.
However, the Spaniard is tied with Real Madrid until the summer of 2023 and he has a mouth-watering £613million release clause in his deal with the 13-time Champions League winner and he’s earning £75,000 a week at Bernabeu.
