Premier League giants Southampton have reportedly met Celtic’s £10 million valuation for Stuart Armstrong and his agent is now free to continue his discussions with the Premier League’s personal terms.
Armstrong agreed a one year contract extension with Celtic last summer after much speculation that he was heading to the Premier League then. Playing down south has always been Armstrong’s target in his entire career.
Southampton and Celtic have been close pal when it comes to transfer occasions and the Premier League got great service from the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Fraser Forster. These players are worth around £50 million.
Armstrong, an already established Scotland international, is now in the peak of his career. The Scottish ace had a brilliant season during the Hoops’ Invincible campaign but have struggled recapitulate such form last term, while the surgery in underwent also played a huge role that saw him out of Brendan Rodgers’ plan.
His transfer to Southampton would see Celtic bank £10million which will be made up of £7million up front and additional sums if the PL club avoid getting relegated next season and Armstrong reaches set appearance figures. There will also be a sell-on clauses in his deal with Southampton. The Hoops recently benefited a mouth-watering £9.3million from the sell-on clause for Van Dijk’s move from Saints to Liverpool.
We wish Stuart Armstrong good luck with his potential new side. Southampton is raiding Celtic for another superb player, this time who is willing ply his trade in the Premier League.
