According to reports coming from The Express, Premier League club Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Barcelona’s and Portuguese midfielder, Andre Gomes.
It’s reported that Gomes wants to leave Barca this summer after two years of not breaking into their first-team plans. Arsenal, on the other hand, despite their recent acquisition of Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira, while still having likes of Ramsey and Xhaka in their ranks, seems to be considering move for a new midfielder this summer.
Gomes, has been down the pecking order, since his move to Barca having failed to adapt to the Catalan giants’ playing style. He could be on his way to Arsenal on a loan deal with the option to make his move permanent.
Arsenal new head-coach Unai Emery has said that, although he is pleased with his side activities this window, but he could consider room for more signing before the window closes.
Gomes joined Barcelona back in the summer of 2016 from Sevilla for a fee of €35 million, plus €20 million in add-ons but first-team chances with Barcelona has been hard to come by ever since then. Joining Arsenal might see him get back to his best.
Gomes is a superb central midfielder that is known for his passing abilities, creativity and awareness in the middle of the park. Playing in a new and happier environment, like Arsenal, he could be a bargain signing as the La Liga giants are keen on signing him so they can raise fund to sign Brazilian and Chelsea winger, Willian.
Here’s how he will look in an Arsenal jersey once he completes his move to The Emirates Stadium:
