Liverpool are reportedly set to lock horns with Arsenal in the race to sign SC Freiburg cetre-back Caglar Soyuncu.
The Merseyside’s have made en enquiry about the availability of the Turkish defender, as per reports from Turkish-Football. Soyuncu is also a reported target for fellow Premier League club Arsenal.
Although, Liverpool have been extremely active in the transfer market, having already confirmed the transfer of AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, to add to the arrival of RB Leipzig Naby Keita – whose deal was agreed in the last summer window. That being said, the Reds are also understood to agreed a deal worth a whooping £53 million with French club Olympique Lyon for the signing creative midfielder Nabil Fekir.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have also been active in the transfer market. Following the appointment of Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s successor. They’ve also signed veteran full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer deal.
Arsenal are reported to be very close to the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s and Greek international defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
However, with new reports claiming the Gunners are considering move for German defendr Lukas Klostermann, this might see Liverpool hijacking their move for Soyuncu.
The 22-year old has a contract till the summer of 2022 with Freiburg and is valued at £35 million by the club.
