With just 12 days until Arsenal first match of the new 2018/19 season, the Gunners have been handed a huge bosst with reports claiming Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez is big a major doubt for the reigning champions.
The Algeria international joined the Citizen in a reported £60million deal from Leicester City which has placed him as the most expensive African footballer ever sold.
Mahrez started for Man City when they took on Bayern Munich in the international Champions Cup. City, however, were two goals down against the Bavarians before Mahrez was stretchered off the field. The former Leicester man was then replaced by Portuguese international Bernando Silva, who turned the game around and led Pep Guardiola’s men to a 3-2 victory.
Guardiola in City’s post-match conference said:
“I don’t know [the extent of the injury].
“I wasn’t in the locker room. It was his ankle. We will see, maybe it is not a problem.
“I’m concerned for many things, for injured players, players who are still not here but I am so satisfied for what all of the guys on the tour have done.”
The start of the season is about a fortnight from today and this news would have come as a massive boost for Arsenal, who would be looking to prove a point in the Premier league under Unai Emery.
