Arsenal legend David Seaman believes his former side goalkeeper Petr Cech has the qualities in him to be Unai Emery’s first-choice goalkeeper next season despite recent signing of Bernd Leno this summer.
Leno joined Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen in a £22million deal last month and is expected to start the season as the Gunners goalkeeper, though bound to face strong competition from the former Chelsea goalkeeper.
Cech, who appears to be on his former side radar this summer, has not hit the heights he reached with Chelsea since he moved North in 2015, but has been a consistent presence at Arsenal.
Seaman, who won three league titles in his 13 years with Arsenal, believed the retired Czech international can still win the battle to be Arsenal first-choice between the sticks next season.
The Gunners legend said:
“He has still got great qualities and it isn’t like he has had a bad season or anything, he still produced.
“Obviously he is getting older but your game adapts, that is what I found, you might not be as sharp as what you used to be but your experience gets you into the right positions.”
However, base on reports linking Cech to Chelsea, if the goalkeeper should stay put at Arsenal, it appears David Ospina will finally be facing the exit door this summer as the Colombian had already grown frustrated with his role as backup over the past three seasons with Arsenal.
It’s believed as per reports, that Portuguese giants Besiktas are eyeing move for the World Cup ace this summer.
