Bad news for Chelsea as £26.5m bid gets rejected for £20m-rated centre-back

According to reports, Chelsea have been a dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, with the Serie A champions turning down their opening offer of £26.5m for the Italian defender.

The report is according to Italian news outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport via The Sun, that claimed the Blues made an opening offer of £26.5m for Rugani, and Juventus have rejected this offer.

The above-mentioned source are also reporting that Maurizio Sarri is set to be announced and take over from Antonio Conte this summer, whilst the Blues are eager in making Rugani Sarri’s first signing at Stamford Bridge.

Rugani, despite just in his 20’s, has managed to registered his place in Juventus first team despite Massimiliano Allegri having other options.

Since joining Juve from Empoli in the summer of 2015, Rugani has registered 67 appearances for the Turin-based outfit across all competition.

This season, he played a huge role in helping the Serie A giants retaining their Serie A title, with the centre-back netting two goals with two assists in 22 league appearances.

If Chelsea are serious about signing the £20m-rated at all, it’ll be interesting to see how much they will fork out from their bank to make sure he move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
