According to the Scotsman, Celtic are believed to be one of interested team vying for the signature of Peterborough striker Jack Marriot. The 23-year-old striker enjoyed a brilliant first season with the League 1 side.
It is believed that his club are requesting a fee in the region of £6m for the sale of the striker. Marriot in 56 appearances for the English team, netted a total of 33 goals. While Brendan Rodgers’ team have several attacking players of his likes, none of these players could rival Marriot’s excellent goal-scoring form this season.
The Scottish champions’ most prominent forward, Moussa Demele was only able to net 16 goals across all competition, which shows how good Marriot has been this season. Although, it’s a well-known fact that the League One is of equal quality to the Scottish Premiership League, but Celtic could boast of their “Cristiano Ronaldo” in Marriot if they sign his summer.
Gary Hooper, who in total 138 appearances for Celtic between 2010-2014 netted 82 goals, is an example of how a striker can progress in Scotland following a productive spell in England. 23-year-old Marriot boast of brilliant potential, and he could further improve his skills and scoring prowess with Celtic.
If Celtic are to maintain their stance in domestic domination, superiorty over Rangers and going further in Europe competitions, then the signing of a consistent goalscorer would be of tremendous benefit while fortifying their power.
Celtic could achieve all this with the signing Jack Marriot while class that exist between the club and their divisional rivals could further be widen. Rodgers should urge Celtic to do whatever it takes to sign the striker.
