According to reports, Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are considering a summer move for Celtic’s centre-back Kristoffer Ajer.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant spell with the Glasgow giants and is now a target for the BvB giants. The Bundesliga are said to begin preparations for new acquisitions for next season, with Ajer the latest man to be linked with a move to the club.
Report from Scottish tabloid Daily Record claimed that the club have already made contact with Celtic over a potential move for the player. Ajer is already a senior figure for Norway national team, despite being only 19.
The centre-back performances this season have made him one of the most soughted young stars in Europe. With many sides keeping an eye on him, Dortmund will be looking to make their move for him official very soon.
He joined Scottish champions Celtic in 2016 for just 650,00 pounds. A loan spell at Kilmarnock followed last season. But this year, he has become a pivotal player for Celtic, having made 24 appearances in all competitions.
A big money bid from Dortmund could tempt Celtic into selling their prized asset. Ajer is contracted to Celtic until June 2020. Ajer has all the traits of a typical modern day centre back. He is known for his physicality, especially in aerial duels, as well as his tackling. And the talented defender could prove to be a great signing for Dortmund in the long term.
If Borussia Dortmund do sign Ajer, they will have to offload one of their centre backs, with Sokratis the most likely to be sold. The Greek international has struggled in recent weeks, and there are fears that his time at the top is coming to an end. With his contract expiring in 2019, Dortmund could let Sokratis depart in the summer. As for Ajer, the Norwegian has great potential, and a move to the Westfalenstadion will certainly tempt him. Replacing Sokratis with someone, who is 10 years younger and has great potential, will also be a tempting move for the Dortmund bosses.
