Both Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko are both linked with summer exits from the club in the summer, according to reports. The yet to be officiated reported claims that the duo are both expected to face the exit door at the Parkhead come end of the season.
It is believed that the club are considering strengthening the core of the their defence for the upcoming season and the pair have been primed for those changes. There also reports that the Hopps are looking at Bayern Munich defender Thomas Isherwood, who plays as a centre-back for the Bavarian’s reserved team.
Both Simunovic and Sviatchenko have both won the Premiership titles back-to-back with Celtic during the 2015/16 and 2016/17 season. However, the former has had to play in a more fringe role and has been down the pecking order this season, while the latter was shipped out of the club on loan to FC Midtjylland.
The two players are not in Brendan Rodgers plans for Celtic this season and would be set to find greener pastures next season.
It makes sense for Celtic to move on fringe players that don’t have a future at the club, with Simunovic and Sviatchenko fitting that description.
Jack Hendry, Kristoffer Ajer and Dedryck Boyata are all centre-backs competing for a starting position right now.
The Bhoys need to add real quality to their squad and hopefully find players that can take them to the next step in European competitions.
