Celtic are reportedly in the race to Arsenal and England under-17 goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, according to a report.
The Daily Mirror claims that the 16-year-old is also a target for Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig after failing to agree a new deal with the Gunners.
It is believed that the North London club have offered him a scholarship deal with a professional contract to follow when he turns 17-year-old In September.
The report says that the highly-rated shot-stopper is yet to agree a deal with the Gunners and he could walk away as a free agent in the summer transfer window, even though he would rather stay put in North London.
Arsenal, who are currently sixth in the Premier League, have hired Huss Fahmy to oversee new deals, however he is quickly becoming a tough negotiator and there are several youngsters at the club who are in a similar situation to Okonkwo.
Okonkwo definitely looks like a great up-and-coming talent, but his attitude towards signing a new deal at Arsenal may be something that will put Celtic off him. It’s odd to see a 16-year-old eager to stay put at a big club like the Gunners, but want to leave after not being able to agree a new deal.
Arsenal have some of the best facilities worldwide and with respect to Celtic, he is not likely to end up anywhere that his better for his development. In terms of getting more senior football, Celtic and RB Leipzig would be better options for him to move to in the future, but this whole contract situation is bizarre.
