Celtic played out a thoroughly entertaining 4-2 win over Hibernian yesterday. Tom Rogic, James Forrest and Odsonne Edouard starred going forward as the Bhoys picked up a hard thought but deserved victory.
However, another man who deserves credit for his performance is defender Filip Benkovic. The Croatian is swiftly winning the fans around at Parkhead with his recent performances. It is quite clear to see why Leicester CIty paid £13.5 million to bring him to the King Power Stadium in August.
First-team opportunities were unfortunately slim for the player, so Leicester decided it was the right thing to send him out on loan this season.
Benkovic, after initially fighting an injury, is now looking like a starter for Celtic and his form justifies his selection.
There has been talk this week that the 21-year-old could return to Leicester in January. The player himself confirmed as much this week, as reported by the Scottish Sun. The recall clause was put in place in case Leicester receive an offer they cannot refuse for star defender Harry Maguire in January.
The England international has been linked with an £80 million move to some of the top clubs in Europe and his departure would make a recall extremely likely.
After his recent form, Celtic will hope no such deal happens, as keeping Benkovic for the season could be key to Brendan Rodgers’ hopes of silverware.
