Premier League club Chelsea F.C. could be set to sanction a surprise sale of Marcos Alonso, should Atletico Madrid agree to meet their £54m asking price. Alonso joined Chelsea from Fiorentina two years ago and the Spaniard has since established himself as the Blues’ first-choice on the left side of the backline.
As reported Spanish news outlet AS, it believed the Blues could sanction the sale of the Spain international before the Spanish transfer deadline with the Rojiblancos among the leading contenders for his signature.
Atletico Madrid are presently expecting Felipe Luis to face the exit door in the final days of this window with Paris Saint-Germain leading the race for his signature and this seen the La Liga giants showing strong interest in signing Alonso as his replacement.
However, Alonso joining Atletico does not assure him of regular gametime unlike at Chelsea, given Lucas Hernandez has certainly nailed a starting berth after he starred for France during their World Cup triumph.
Alonso has made a strong start to the new season with a goal and an assist from Chelsea two opening two Premier League matches and the Spanish news source suggests the Blues are not desperate to offload his services unless their £54m price tag is matched.
As such, there appears only a minute possibility that the Spaniard may make way from Stamford Bridge, given Atleti would not want to be spending massive sums on a player, who may only command a deputy role at the beginning.
