Chelsea are ready to launch a last minute bid for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
Chelsea are desperate to strengthen their options up top before the end of the month, with Alvaro Morata struggling for form in the Premier League and Michy Batshuayi widely speculated to leave Chelsea in the coming days.
The likes of Andy Caroll, Peter Crouch and Edin Dzeko have been linked with a potential move to Chelsea in recent weeks, however, with no such deals happening, the reigning Premier League champions will now turn their attention to Giroud.
Chelsea are believed to take Giroud on-loan, however, Arsenal would rather let him leave the club by selling – though only if they can bring in a striker before the end of the transfer market.
Talks between the North London side and Borussia Dortmund are ongoing for the transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, however the Bundesliga giants are reluctant to sell the Gabon international, having rejected two bids from the FA Cup holders for the striker.
Any deal involving the exit of Giroud would depend on the arrival of Aubameyang, who Arsenal are current in talks to sign.
There has also been talk of a possible swap deal involving the France international for Auba, which would see the Gunners star move to Germany as a makeweight for Aubameyang in a cash plus player deal.
Olivier Giroud was heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal in the summer, and given the option on cards between the two sides, he is understood to prefer a move to Chelsea having already hinted “he wants to remain in London.”
Giroud – whos is desperate for more playing time ahead of the upcoming world cup this summer – has start only one Premier League start for Arsenal this season, and only 10 across all competition, netting seven goals along the line.
