Chelsea performance in all outings this past season was not very impressive and the way transfer business is handled this summer has made things more worrying.
The Blues ended their season outside of the top (fifth) but managed to claim the FA Cup against Manchester United, but this was not enough to guarantee them a spot at the Champions League.
Chelsea, however, began training for their pre-season fixtures this week with Antonio Conte. Seeing Conte led the team in training this week have cast serious doubts in fans heart as to what might going on at the Bridge after the Italian’s future has been up in the air.
Everyone is really expecting Conte to face the exit door at Stamford Bridge this summer and Maurizio Sarri walk in as replacement. But with the former still in charge, it does not seem Sarri would be Chelsea boss for the new campaign.
That being said, the Daily Express report that the Premier League club are plotting a move for €30m-rated Dinamo Zagreb and Croatian centre-back Filip Benkovic to bolster their backline ahead of the upcoming season.
Benkovic registered 30 appearances for Zagreb last season as he’s established himself as regular figure in Nenad Bjelica’s line-up over the past three seasons.
Chelsea’s reported interest in Benkovic comes with huge doubt as they have many options at their disposal in Antonio Rudiger, Gary Cahill, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and David Luiz, and with this mind, it remains to be seen whether their €30m reported offer for the Croatian does worth it.
But with the uncertainties still surrounding the managerial issues is resolved, it appears no transfer would be happening at the club until this has been resolved.
Without knowing who will guard the Blues through for the upcoming season, Chelsea can’t make move for any players who won’t fit into another manager’s coaching ideas and plans which in thus, Filip Benkovic to Chelsea this summer, still remains hearsay.
