Following a poor 2018/19 campaign, AC Milan will be looking at a summer rebuild this transfer window whether they secure Champions League football or not, with the defense being their biggest problem.
Full-back Abate, whose contract with the club will not be renewed, will be leaving Milan this summer meaning the club will be looking for one or two potential replacement in the transfer market.
However, the full-back is not the only problem here as Centre back Duvan Zapata’s future with the club is also hanging on a thread but reports claims that Milan are more likely extend his stay by a year. While Caldara, who has missed most of the season, could also be replaced this summer.
The Italian club might have just found a possible solution to the heart of their defence ahead of the opening of the transfer window.
Reports coming from Calciomercato claims that Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi has been identified by the Rossoneri to cure their defensive problems next season.
Mustafi, who has previously has a stint with Italian club Sampdoria back in 2012, has so helped his North London club to the Europa League final, where they will be facing off Chelsea in Baku on May 29.
The Gunners defender has always been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium but the European final might just be his last game for the club having failed to impress the fans and the manager Unai Emery, who is keen on a squad overhaul this summer.
Out of desperation to sell in the summer, Arsenal might be willing to accept as low as €20m for the 2014 World Cup winner and AC Milan should be able able to match their asking price and land the 27-year-old defender.
