According to reports, Sunderland are reportedly eyeing a move for Celtic winger Ryan Christie. The 23-year-old is not in Brendan Rodgers’ plans at Celtic are reports in the Scottish Sun suggest that the third tier club are “ready to offer” Christie a move away.
The 23-year-old, who is capable of playing out wide or in a central midfield role, joined the Hoops from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2015. But he has find it hard to register a regular starting role under Brendan Rodgers and was should out on loan to Aberdeen last season.
Christie impressed for Aberdeen, and has gone on to receive senior international honours for Scotland, but still looks unlikely to earn his first team chances with Celtic. And reports making rounds from north of the border suggest that Sunderland could make a move for the midfielder with the Black Cats boss Jack Ross well aware of his performance during their time together at St Mirren.
With the transfer window closing in just a few days, it has been suggested that the League One would initially sign Christie on loan before making his deal a permanent one in January. The Hoops splashed out around £500,000 on the winger and are keen to recoup a similar amount should they sell.
But the fact that Christie is out of contract next summer – and looks unlikely to be offered a new deal – could potentially see a cut-price deal negotiated.
