Graeme Souness has revealed that he thought midfielder Naby Keita would bring “real magic” to Liverpool’s midfield when he joined the Merseyside in the summer.
The Sky Sports pundit revealed that he thought Liverpool’s current stocks in midfield are all very good, but none of the players are capable of seeing a different picture.
“Naby Keita is coming in the summer [from RB Leipzig] and he might just give them that extra bit of quality that I think they need in midfield,” said Souness when analyzing Jurgen Klopp’s Anfield reign on Sky Sports’ website.
“I think they need someone in midfield who sees a different picture.
“The three that they have got in there today (Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum) – and I include Emre Can in that – are all very good players, all very workmanlike and do a great job for the cause.
“But none of them have got that real magic and maybe he will give them that.”
Keita is set to join Liverpool in the summer from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, as Klopp’s Liverpool side have already completed a £48million deal, according to The Guardian, for his services.
Keita has registered 22 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, netting five goals, while creating four assists.
Souness certainly has high hopes for Keita by publicly backing him to be the missing puzzle piece in the Reds’ midfield. The Sky Sports pundit is a little harsh on Milner by lumping him in alongside Henderson and Wijnaldum when stating that none of these players are able to see a different picture.
