Deal Close: Celtic to seal £3m deal, five-year contract offered

According to reports, Scotland champions Celtic are eyeing a £2.5m move for Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna before the transfer deadline.

McKenna is facing another month on the treatment table having been ruled out of action with a hamstring injury but that hasn’t seen Celtic’s interest in the player write off.

The defender enjoyed a brilliant spell last season that saw him earn four appearance for Scotland not long after he struggled to get a game while on loan at Ayr United.

Celtic have been battling with defensive problems since the start of the season with likes of Jozo Simunovic and Kris Ajer picking up UEFA suspensions while uncertainties surrounding future of Dedryck Boyata left Brendan Rodgers short of options against AEK Athens.

Aberdeen has placed a five year contract on McKenna back in March but they can’t compete with the sort of salary on offer at Celtic or Swansea who are also believe to be interested in the defender.

Although the rivalry between the two teams are well documented but they have both been involved in deals involving Jonny Hayes and Ryan Christie in recent seasons.
