According to reports, Crystal Palace’s and Ivorian star Wilfried Zaha wants to join Chelsea before the end of the transfer window after Tottenham Hotspur have been hijacked out of the race to sign the winger. Zaha has been on Spurs’ shortlist for the last two years but the North London club have never been able to agree a deal with Palace for his signature.
As reported by the Sunday Mirror, it’s claimed the winger wants to leave Selhurst Park before the transfer window closes next Thursday and Chelsea are in pole position to sign him.
The report went further claiming Tottenham’s head-coach Maurizio Pochettino’s interest in the winger is still strong but his side have finally given up on his pursuit as they refuse to pay Palace’s £75 million asking price for the African man.
Chelsea have now been given a huge boost in the race to sign Zaha, and the report claims that the player is ready to take the next step in his career.
However, Palace boss Roy Hodgson insists that Zaha will not be sold this summer.
Hodgson told talkSPORT:
“I spoke to Wilf yesterday and he certainly gave me no indication it was true about wanting to quit the club.
“In fact, we were talking about how good the new signings were and how they would help us.”
