Liverpool and Arsenal have been in lock horns over the signing of a young defender in the form of Joel Lopez and as per new reports making rounds, the teenage has left Barcelona to join Arsenal.
The Catalan giants wanted to hold on to the youngster as Liverpool and Arsenal fought for his signing but report as per The Telegraph claims the 16-year-old left-back will be joining Arsenal this summer.
The British outlet have mentioned that Lopez will agree terms of his first professional contract with the north Londoners after his 17th birthday next year.
Arsenal, while under Arsene Wenger, were fond of signing teenage midfielders, nurturing their talent and giving them the chance to exploits in the first team. And the good thing for fans is that this habit has not changed even after the French boss has left the club.
Theo Walcott join Arsenal at the age of 16, worked hard and became a regular starter at the club and even earned a place in the senior England side.
Cesc Fabregas arrived at the age of 16 from Barcelona and in a few years, the Spaniard became the captain at Arsenal. Fabregas left Arsenal to join Barcelona and earned a starting role, and now even at Chelsea, the Spaniard is an undisputed starter with Stamford Bridge outfits.
Hector Bellerin, joined Arsenal from Barcelona in 2011 and was also a 16-year-old when he joined. Now in his 20’s, the right-back is an undisputed starter. The likes of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and even Barca are lining up move for defender.
As mentioned by Sport, Joel Lopez is a mature player, who has the ability to move up and down the left wing but whether he will grow and become a fan-favourite like Bellerin, Walcott and Fabregas remains to be seen.
