Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri came out to the media to confirm that the club will activate a clause in Olivier Giroud’s contract which will see him stay another season at Stamford Bridge.
The World Cup winner, joined Chelsea from Arsenal during the winter transfer window last year with his contract st to expire this summer but a clause in his contract will see him at the club for another year.
The French striker has been playing for the Blues mainly as a second-choice striker, which has severed his game time with the club. Giroud’s has been prolific for the Blues in the Europa League helping the club to the semi-finals having found the back of the net 10 times in 11 appearances and also being the Tournament highest goals scorer.
The Blues might just not be able to sign any players this coming summer transfer window having been found guilty by FIFA and given a two-window transfer ban. On the good side the Blues are currently appealing to FIFA to raise the ban.
In a Press conference, Sarri said: “He is sure [to stay] because the club has an option for another year, another season.
“I spoke to the club two days ago and we agreed to exercise the option.
“So, he will remain.”
