Following his impressive season for the Merseysiders this season, English Top Flight players have voted Virgil Van Dijk as their PFA Player of the Year.
Van Dijk stood as arguably the best defender that has not been dribbled past this 2018/19 campaign and also keeping 20 clean sheets so far in the English top flight.
But Liverpool supporters could have lost courage in defender right after seeing pictures of their hero putting on a Manchester City shirt resurface on the media.
Now the fans will be happy to understand that the picture was taken three years ago when the Dutch defender was still a player for his former club Southampton and with a link to a move to City.
His former teammates got him a City’s jersey to wear for Secret Santa following the rumours of his links away from St Mary’s Stadium.
Former Saints captain Jose Fonte uploaded the picture on his Instagram page back in 2016.
Earlier in the 2018/19 campaign, Watford player Troy Deeney spoke and joked about how much he “hated” going up against the Dutch captain in a Premier League match.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5, Deeney said: “I’ve said it many times, I hate him, I hate going up against him.
“He’s too big, too strong, too quick, too good on the ball, loves fighting, a good head of hair.”
