Reports coming from Spain via Marca are claiming Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer this summer.
The Spanish news tabloid reports that the North London club are now in advanced talks to sign the Swiss goalkeeper, who represented his country between the sticks at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
It is claimed that Arsenal are working very quickly to see his signing done before end of the transfer window and this is likely to happen before end of the coming week.
Sommer registered 33 appearances for the Bundesliga giants last season, conceding 44 goals and registering eight clean sheets, and the goalkeeper also won four titles with his former club FC Basel, as well as winning two Swiss cups.
After signing Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, their move for Sommer would mean the Gunners have two top-quality goalkeepers in rank to compete with each other this season but joining Arsenal would likely spell the end of David Ospina and Petr Cech’s time with the club.
Sommer is an outstanding shot-stopper and very brilliant between the sticks. He is also very good technically, vastly experienced both for club and country, and the goalkeeper can also pass the ball out with his feet comfortably.
If reports breaking the news are anything to go by, it sounds as though the goalkeeper move to Arsenal is pretty imminent, considering the report states that the goalkeeper will likely join the club this summer.
However, at this stage of his career, and at 29-year-old, the goalkeeper would want to swap a guaranteed first-team place to be a potential back-up keeper?
