Ex-Liverpool star Javier Mascherano joins Hebei China Fortune

Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano will join Hebei China Fortune from Barcelona on Friday, an official report from the club have confirmed.

The 33-year-old is to join the Chinese side for a reported fee of €10million.

The La Liga champions on Tuesday confirmed that the Argentinian would be leaving the club after a hugely successful seven and a half years at the club, in which the former Liverpool man won 18 major trophies, including four La Liga titles, four Copas del Rey and two UEFA Champions Leagues.

Mascherano will be granted an “institutional farewell” by the club on Thursday, which president Josep Maria Bartomeu and the first-team squad will be present.

Mascherano’s playing time this season has been limited, he registered just 12 appearances across all competitions. Mascherano has been down the pecking order under Ernesto Valverde with Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen above him in the pecking order.
