Brendan Rodgers has a huge decision to make regarding his starting line-up against Zenit St. Petersburg on Thursday night as a number of defenders are injured for the Second Round of 32 clash – and fans want Jack Hendry to start.
From reports, his side will be without the service of Belgium international Dedryck Boyata while Marvin Compper is not expected to return to full fitness in time to face the Russian giants, as he is yet to overcome a calf injury and make his debut.
Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic took part in first-leg against Roberto Mancini side and were rested on Sunday against St. Johnstone, with Hendry not also tooking part of the clash.
However, 22-year-old Hendry is eligible to play against Mancini’s side and he could be given his first ever European appearance as the Hoops look to secure an advantage on home soil ahead of next week’s trip to Russia.
Celtic fans have called on Rodgers to throw 6ft 3in Hendry in to what is a baptism of fire against Zenit, which could see the Glasgow-born defender form one third of a three-man defence or indeed replace either Ajer or Simunovic.
No, I'd throw Hendry in. Characters can be made in big ties – Pat McCluskey in the San Siro, David Marshall in the Nou Camp. Jozo remains a liability, Zenit are fast & direct in attack. Ajer & Hendry are the future
