Report according to an European press, via Sky Sports claimed Premier League club Chelsea will try making move for AS Roma and Greece international Kostas Manolas this summer.
This report came in the wake of the Blues reported £26.5m bid rejected by Juventus for Daniele Rugani. The Blues could then focus attention on the Roma centre-back who made headlines with his winning goals for Roma that knocked out Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final this year.
According to Sky, they say Chelsea will try and trigger Manolas’ €36m release clause this summer, that will see him team up with his former teammate Antonio Rudiger.
€36m for Manolas looks very cheap for Chelsea, but the question is whether Manolas is the right centre-back Chelsea need this summer. Their defence options are not reliable. There are numerous deficiencies in the team. A move for a new right back and a central midfielder look to be top of their list.
On the other hand, if David Luiz and Gary Cahill both leave the club this summer, or the new appointed a manager decides to continue with a three at the back system, a need for new signing would showcase.
Manolas, however, signed a new three-year contract extension with the club in December, one that will see him earn €3.5 million a year (€67,307.69 a week) through the 2022 season with Roma.
