After announcing the signing of Swiss free agent from Juventus, Arsenal new boss Unai Emery and the club recruitment team are working on making final touches on a second deal.
The move for the player in question is Borussia Dortmund’s and 29-year-old Greek international Sokratis Papastathopoulos who’s tipped to join the Gunners in bid to come replace injured Laurent Koscielny.
Reports from Bild claimed Arsenal are on the verge of signing the Greece international. It also states that the deal for the player is as good as done with the financial details of the deal already agreed and the transfer fee will be worth about €19m with wages amounting to about £84,000-per-week which is double what he currently earns at Dortmund.
The Gunners’ new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat appears to be leveraging on his relationship with Dortmund and the players who play for Dortmund outfit judging by his transfer activities.
The move for Sokratis would be an ideal one but remains to be seen whether he can handle the rigours of the Premier League but it should be noted that Arsenal and Emery are getting a sturdy defender who is tested and trusted on the international stage.
Joining and playing with former teammates in the likes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will aid his adaptation at the Emirates.
