Good news as Chelsea drawing first blood by hijacking United’s move for €35m defender

Chelsea have reportedly held talks with Sevilla star Clement Lenglet over a move possible move to Stamford Bridge this summer. It’s earlier been reported that Manchester United have made a strong approach to sign the defender last week and their interest in him has alerted Chelsea, who have been keeping close tabs on the Frenchman for the last six months.

Lenglet, a France under-21 international caught Jose Mourinho’s attention when Sevilla knocked the Red Devils out of the Champions League in February and the La Liga club’s said to value their prized asset at around £31m. However, their Premier League rivals believe they can offer the 22-year-old a great chance of first-team football and his agent Marina Granovskaia have reportedly held talks with his client this week, according to France football.

Chelsea are still getting links with transfer targets this summer despite the ongoing uncertainties surrounding the future of Antonio Conte at the club. Manchester United, on the other hand, have already signed Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot from Porto earlier this week but are said to still be considering room for more defenders.

This has seen the club linked with Tottenham Hotspur star Toby Alderweireld who is valued at around £70m by Spurs – some £20m more than United are willing to pay.

Lenglet was signed by Sevilla for €5 million in January 2017 and the Frenchman has also attracted interest from Barcelona this summer. The centre-back has a €35m (£30.7m) release clause in his deal with Sevilla and recent reports in Spain have claimed that Barcelona are close to completing a deal.
