Rangers fans have had their say on social media and demanded that Declan John be given the nod ahead of Lee Wallace in this weekend’s Scottish Premier League battle against Celtic at Ibrox.
John has missed his side last two games against St Johnstone and Falkirk while Rangers captain has been out since September but both could be available for the Sunday fixture.
Wallace reportedly played the full 90 minutes in a closed doors friendly against St Mirren on Tuesday afternoon to push himself into contention for the Old Firm Derby.
However, in light of Scot’s injury, John has stepped in and stepped up to the fore, filling in admirably in the full-back position.
While his return to fitness is unquestionably a boost for Rangers going into the final run in, the lack of competitive action is a concern for all associated with the club and it is for this reason that fans would prefer to see him continue where he left off in the side.
The Light Blues faithful were calling for John’s name in their opinions on social media and urged Graeme Murty to give the 22-year–old his place in the starting XI.
There is so much riding on this game – not least bragging rights – but an opportunity for Rangers to go for their first title since the 2010/11 season means that no risks can be taken and Wallace would be a risk.
Here are some Tweets from Rangers fans demanding John keep his place in the team against Celtic:
Declan John if he trains this week. Wallace apparently played 90 behind closed doors so should be ready if John misses out. I’d go DJ personally.

Declan John… Wallace’s return as captain would throw our momentum off

Would definitely start Declan John over Lee Wallace on Sunday

Declan John all the way for Sunday, Wallace on the bench. Rangers team picks itself for Sunday, same team as at home versus Hearts and hopefully the same tempo and press and if so we will win the match. Harsh on Cummings but he is a great option from the bench.

Declan John for me, Wallace has been a great servant, for me personally i don’t think he’s got it anymore, He’s lost a few yards in pace and we need that for our style of play! There will be disagreements from what I’m saying obviously but that’s what it’s all about!

Declan John, Wallace has been out too long to play that game
