Elgin City’s new goalie Thomas McHale has showed a strong interest in playing for Celtic having revealed that he dreams of playing for the club one day and has refused to rule out a move to Parkhead in the future.
McHale, who joined Elgin City, from non-league side Truro earlier this month, have straight away set his sights on one day playing for Celtic.
McHale said as quoted by The Daily Record:
“My dream is to play in goal for Celtic. I refuse to rule that out. I am only 22 and there is still plenty of time for that to happen.
“I believe in myself. The sky’s the limit in terms of my ambition and I am not one to hold back in terms of what I go for. If I think I can do it I will give it my best shot.
“I don’t want to harbour any regrets especially when it comes to football. I have worked so hard for the past few seasons and I don’t want to just settle for playing in the lower leagues.
“People might think it’s a weird move but it may turn out to be the best thing I ever did. I will never give up hope of one day playing for Celtic.”
The Daily Record had reported the goalkeeper was target by St Mirren earlier in the summer but failed to agree a new deal with Truro for his signature.
There’s no crime in dreaming high and McHale cannot be blame. The goalkeeper is still in his 20′ and has been a solid option between the sticks for Truro in England’s non-league. Moving to Scotland to play for Elgin is perhaps something he has decided to do in order for the reigning Scotland champions to notice how impressive he is.
However, McHale’s chances of achieving this dream looks pretty slim and maybe he should just settles in at Elgin before setting his sights on playing for a top-flight side. Celtic, on the other hand, their recruitment has been bad enough in the last 12 months, especially in defence.
If Brendan Rodgers was to go out and sign a new shot-stopper, I don’t see the Northern Irish boss going all out for a goalkeeper like McHale unless he spends the next few years rising up the Scottish League ladder.
