With the return of the European football right after the international break, Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has ruled out the key players that will not be available for selection during their weekend game against Newcastle United at the Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have been dealing with lots of injuries since the beginning of the season and during the recent international breaks with Mateo Kovacic, Andreas Christensen and N’Golo Kante being the players to have picked up injuries here and there.
In a pre-match conference, the Blues boss, Lampard confirmed that Croatian midfielder, Kovacic, has fully recovered from his injury and will be available for selection, while also confirming that World Cup winner, Kante, is nowhere fit to be selected for the League game. And Christensen, who is still recovering from his hamstring injury, also will be unavailable.
The 41-year-old manager said to Football.London: “No, N’Golo is not fit. A small groin issue with France, he isn’t fit for Saturday. Kovacic had a knock on his thigh but in contention. Andreas has a hamstring problem which is going to see
him out for two weeks.
German defender, Antonio Rudiger, was reported to have started training but alone. Lampard also addressed the issue claiming that the Germany international is still recovering from a groin injury and asks that the fans should exercise some patience for the prolific defender, who is on his road to full fitness.
He continued: “There’s a bit of work to be done for him to get match fitness but it’s really positive for us that he’s back outside.”
The Blues are currently sitting on the fifth position on the Premier League table and will be looking go higher as they aim to win all three points from the visitors on Saturday.
