If reports bears fruit, PSV youngster Ian Maatsen is reportedly on his way to joining Chelsea this summer.
The 16-year-old is said to have informed his club – PSV – chiefs of his decision in joining the Premier League, as per report emanating from Dutch tabloid Eindhovens Dagblad.
It’s believe the Dutch club have tabled a three-year contract for the defender but he has been rejected this as he wants a move to Chelsea.
Chelsea’s reputation in helping in the build up of young talents is another major factor in Mastsen’s decision in wanting to join the club this summer. It’s added further that PSV will receive £110,000 as compensation fee from Chelsea in seeing the player train at the Stamford Bridge.
The club is not entitled to a transfer fee as he was not under contract with PSV. The defender whose style has drawn comparison with fellow Dutch Nathan Ake would be hoping to use Chelsea as a springboard to success just like Ake who played for Chelsea.
Chelsea, on the other hand, were keen on securing the signing of the young defender as they believe he could grow into a world class defender. Maatson has had previous stints with Sparta Rotterdam and Feyenoord.
Chelsea, who are currently experiencing uncertainty over the future of Antonio Conte, are yet to make any significant step in the transfer market this summer. Although the Italian gaffer has been tipped to be replace by Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri.
Conte led Chelsea to disappointing fifth position last season in the Premier League but manage to secure the FA Cup title against Manchester United but this wasn’t enough to see the club feature in the upcoming Champions League competition
