Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has taken encouragement from his former side recent signing of Mariano Diaz and believed he could one day return to Real Madrid.
Morata, since joining Chelsea, has been a subject of mixed feelings with fans, initially impressing with eight goals in as many games before struggling with injuries and suffering a drastic loss of confidence.
Morata, who cost Chelsea about £53million when he joined from Real Madrid, scored just two Premier League goals in 2018 and although the Spaniard has admitted he is enjoying life under Antonio Conte‘s successor Maurizio Sarri, he has not given up on the idea of returning to the Spanish capital.
When asked about the prospect of a return to Real, Morata said:
“Who would not like it? ‘I am happy at Chelsea but I have many years ahead in my career if God and injuries allow it. Mariano said Madrid never close the door and look what happened.
“You never know. I’m in Chelsea, not in a team that are very inferior. It is clear that Madrid are the best in the world and everyone wants to be there but I’m not envious [of Mariano].”
