Arsenal fans all around the World are believed the club’s third signing of the summer is officially done this summer.
The Gunners completed and confirmed the signing of Stephan Lichtsteiner on July 1 on a free transfer after his contract with Juventus expires, while Arsenal’s move for Germany international and former Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno was completed and announced earlier in the week.
With the departures of both Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere this summer, Unai Emery strengthening the core of his midfield options to be top priority for him this summer with just 49 days left until the transfer window gets closed.
In such scenario, the likes of Steven N’Zonzi, Ever Banega and Aleksandr Golovin among other have all been linked with a move to the Emirates this summer even before confirmation about Cazorla and Wilshere leaving this summer.
However, it seems that Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira would be the midfielder we would been seeing as a replacement to the duo this summer and its current side’s president let it slip that a €30m has been done.
Massimo Ferrero said:
“Sampdoria do not sell unless there are excellent offers.
“We do not look for buyers. We have natural talents whose values increase exponentially.
“Torreira has left for €30million. I bought him from Pescara when no one believed. We bet and we won, paying just €30million. The money that comes in is used to keep the club going.”
Although, there has not been an official update from Arsenal regarding the transfer of Torreira, but the 22-year-old broke the silence about his move to Arsenal in an exclusive interview in Russia.
The Uruguayan said, as quoted via the Independent:
“No, I don’t know [if he is an Arsenal player],
“At the moment , the most important thing is playing for my country.
“Arsenal are a good team, one of the most important in the world, but at this moment I am focused on playing for my country.”
