John Hartson delivers ‘honest’ admission on Celtic’s new £50m-rated

Former Celtic striker John Hartson has claimed Celtic’s and Belgium defender Dedryck Boyata is now in the same class as Manchester City’s and England star John Stones.

The footballer turned football pundit made this assertion on Twitter as he urges his former side to do everything they can in tiying Boyata down to a long-term deal.

Boyata is entering the final year of his deal with Celtic and would be free to walk away from the Scottish champions next summer as a free agent.

Hartson, however, believes seeing Boyata leaving the club on a cheap move on as a free agent would be a huge mistake, feeling that the 27-year-old Belgian is as good as Man City’s Stones who the Premier League champions paid £50milllion to sign him from Everton, making him the world’s second most expensive defender.

Hartson wrote:

“Celtic top priority is to get Boyata on a long term deal. The vultures will be all over him after his World Cup displays.

“If John Stones is £50m then Boyata is in same bracket. Celtic should be in his hotel room now with a contract offer! #gettorussia”
