Arsenal were reported to have been interested in Mainz player Jean-Philippe Gbamin, who has been reported by SportBild to be keen on leaving the club this coming summer transfer window and the Gunners shows a strong interest.
The report claimed that the North London club tabled an offer worth €30m defensive midfielder but was rebuffed by the German club. The Ivorian player, who can be deployed either as a defensive midfielder or a centre back, is reported to have no release clause in his current contract which could see the club place any price on the player.
With Bild reporting that the German club believe they can get an offer worth €40 million for the the 23-year-old, who is running on a contract that will see him at the till 2023.
Gbamin said as quoted by SportWitness: “Last year, the club made the decision that I was not allowed to change. I accepted that, checked it off quickly and also processed it. But this summer can be different.
“I assume that we come to an agreement. Of course, it would be nice if everything went through before the holidays.”
When asked about his possible destination, Gbamin said Greece, USA and Spain and was futher asked if he will be visiting England, he answered: “No, maybe later to work…”
“Also in Germany there are clubs that could interest me. Maybe Dortmund or Leverkusen – I like these clubs.”
