Lazio club director Igli Tare, who is aware of Stefan De Vrij links to the Premier League has reportedly announced that the Dutchman will be leaving the club by the end of the season.
The former Feyenoord defender, joined the Italian club in the summer of 2014. And reports seem to have linked him with moves to English clubs like, Manchester United, Manchester City and now Liverpool have also entered the race for the Dutchman.
Liverpool were reported to have reignited their interest in the Dutchman, after a failed €20 million bid last summer was made. But after the signing of Virgil van Dijk during the winter transfer window, some would’ve thought the Reds will drop their interest in the Lazio player.
However, with De Vrij contract set to expire on July 1 2018, Lazio Club Director Igli Tare spoke to Mediaset to confirm the future of De Vrij with the Serie A outfit, Tare said:
“Lazio have withdrawn the proposal we made for a new contract to De Vrij
“We are withdrawing for reasons that we will explain later on. It was a choice made after many months of negotiations, but there is also a limit to how things went.
“He has been an exemplary professional and we thank him for that as well as what he’ll do until the end of the season.
“He gave a lot to the club, just as we gave a great deal to him, but our paths will divide in June.”
Now with no doubt of De Vrij departure in the summer, Liverpool will have to be fighting off some competitions as the Dutchman has sparked interests from all over Europe with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City and Serie A rivals Juventus also reported to be interested in the Lazio star.
De Vrij has been an Important key figure in the Lazio defense this season as he has managed 29 starts for the Serie A outfit and bagged 4 goals this season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are really keen to strengthen their defense next summer as De Vrij is not the only centre-back linked to the Merseysiders, Swiss defender Manuel Akanji.
