Medicals On Monday: Chelsea close-in on £44.2m deal for Sarri’s former player

Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Juventus defender Daniele Rugani this summer in a £44.2million fee in what looks like being a superb transfer for the Blues this summer.

Rugani has long been linked with Chelsea and his one of the most promising young centre-backs across Europe and seems exactly what the Premier League clubs need to raise their game in the league this summer.

The Italian would surely be a long-time options on the likes of David Luiz and Gary Cahill, and reports as per the Evening Standard suggest a deal is close to being finalised this summer.

This summer has generally been an unwelcome one for Chelsea, and things do finally seem to be coming together for the club after their appointment of former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri as Antonio Conte replacement this summer and with him to the club was Jorginho.

Rugani would be another long-term solid addition for Chelsea to help improve their performance at the back after last season’s struggles saw them finish fifth in the Premier League and miss out on Champions League football for this coming season.

Rugani has not always been a regular starter for Juventus, but he does shows glimpses of brilliant performances when given the chance and working under Sarri, he would likely be guarantee a starting role at Chelsea under the Italian.
