Odds slashed on Gerrard’s Rangers to win SPL after Celtic’s poor performance

Celtic suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Kilmarnock this weekend leading many fans and punters to believe that they could slip up this season and allow their biggest rivals Rangers to win the league title for the first time this in seven years.

Celtic are currently sixth in the league having accumulated ten points from their opening six games. Their two defeats in those opening six mean that this is their worst start to a league season in 20 years having won back-to-back domestic trebles in the past two seasons.

Despite their slow start, Celtic are still just six points of league leaders Hearts and the heavy favourites to win their eighth win in a row. They are around ¼ with most bookmakers, but their odds have lengthened over the weekend and they were 1/10 at the start of the seasons.

League leaders Hearts can still be backed at 25/1 but the main focus from punters has been on Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. Gerrard has taken to life in management like a duck to water and his side lie in second on 11 points. Punters clearly fancy the Glasgow side as they have been backed from 5/1 to win the league into 3/1 in places.

The Gers spanked St. Johnstone 5-1 at the weekend and their only loss in the league this season came against their bitter rivals in the Old Firm Derby. They have certainly played some good stuff this season and seem to be responding to Gerrard’s coaching methods.

These odds could continue to tumble if Celtic’s poor form continues.
