According to report from the Daily Telegraph, Premier League club have completed the signing of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos in a reported £16m fee.
Unai Emery’s keen on strengthening the core of his new side defensive woes this summer and has already secured the signing of Juventus veteran Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer earlier this month.
The North London club have been heavily linked with a move for the Greek international since Emery was announced as Arsene Wenger’s successor last month and now the Premier League club have secured his services.
Sokratis is in the final 12 months of his deal with Dortmund and Arsenal have managed to pull of a cut-price for the experienced 20-year-old centre-back.
The club’s new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has now signed three players with a background from his former side after paving way for the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the club in January.
Arsenal have made a clear step in the direction of adding experience to their squad this summer, having previously targeted signings that have time to develop and add sell-on value.
In the last three Bundesliga campaigns, only three players have completed more passes in their own half of the pitch than Sokratis.
