Official !- Chelsea close to completing $81m “record deal” ahead of Real Madrid

According to reports coming from Spain, Chelsea are close to signing AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker ahead of Real Madrid and Liverpool this summer.

Chelsea’s No. 1 between the sticks, Thibaut Courtois has just one year left to run on his remaining contract with the Blues and talks about contract extension with the Belgian has stalled having refused to sign a new deal. In such a scenario, the Blues could looks to offload him this summer.

Selling Courtois would definitely see Chelsea in the hunt for a better replacement which has seen Alisson emerged as one of their first choices this summer.

Spanish rumours monger Marca via The Metro, claimed the Premier League giants are closest to signing the Brazilian from Roma as they are nearer to matching Roma’s €70 million (£62m) ($80,943,590.00) valuation for the goalkeeper which would smash some standing record transfer at Chelsea. It’s also believed Real Madrid have also made him one of their top priority targets this summer.

The 13th-time Champions League holders have made an approach of €40m (£35m) which was rejected outrightly and are not looking to offer beyond this amount for the shot-stopper. However, it’s believed Alisson’s preferred destination is to join the Los Blancos but with the club not keen on meeting with the Serie A club’s asking price, we should see him heading to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Earlier this week, Roma’s sporting director Monchi suggested that the Brazilian goalkeeper could face the exit door at Stadio Olimpico this summer.

The director said:

“There’s no such thing anywhere in the world as an unsellable player.

“The perfect answer would be to say that he’s unsellable, but I can’t say that because such a player doesn’t exist.”
