Paul Charles Merson, popularly known as Paul Merson is a former English professional football player and manager. Aside from that, he is also a popular sports television pundit for Sky Sports for some years. As a footballer, Merson was mostly renowned for his playing time with Premier League club Arsenal. Playing as an attacking midfielder, Paul Merson found success as a key player for the North London club under the reign of manager George Graham. This led to him winning several trophies with the club including two Football League Championships, one FA Cup, one Football League Cup and the European Cup Winners’ Cup. He also played at Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Portsmouth throughout his football career. All these made Paul Merson’s net worth become a subject amongst football fans, especially Arsenal fans. Paul Merson was born on 20 March 1968, making him 54 years old at the time of this writing. Having been born in Harlesden, Merson grew up in North West London and started his football career at Arsenal as an apprentice in 1984. Two years later, Paul Merson made his debut for the North London club in a game against Manchester City, and he was able to establish himself in Arsenal’s team that season. He played a pivotal role in helping the London club lift the First Division title for the 1988/89 campaign, with Merson scoring ten times that season which led to him being nominated for PFA Young Player of the year.

Merson played a pivotal role for Arsenal, once more, in helping them win another league championship as he contributed 14 league goals which was the highest goalscoring season of his career. He went on to lift a domestic double with his Gunners’ teammates in 1993, as he scored in the Football League Cup Final against Sheffield Wednesday. He was also pivotal in helping North London win their first European trophy in 24 years as they beat Italian club Parma in Copenhagen in the 1993/94 European Cup Winners’ Cup. He helped them to another Cup Winners’ Cup final but failed to secure the trophy as they lost to Real Zaragoza in Paris. In 1997, Merson was sold to Middlesbrough.

The sale to Middlesbrough made him the most expensive player ever signed by a non-Premiership club, the fee paid was reported to be £4.5million. He was nicknamed “The Magic Man” after playing a pivotal role in helping Middlesbrough return to the Premier League. However, he didn’t play for long at Boro, he moved to Aston Villa after claiming he was homesick in 1998. He then went on to play for Portsmouth, Walsall and Tamworth before announcing retirement from professional football in 2006.

He later got married to Louise, his second wife, and the same problem rose up, with the two going their separate ways in 2013 after birthing twin girls.

Sometime later, he married Kate, who gave birth to three children with him. To avoid the same problems from his previous unions, the former player made Kate, his current wife, in charge of his earnings. But this was after he squandered their house deposit during the covid-19 lockdown.
