Premier League club Arsenal FC have taken to Twitter to announce that summer signing Bernd Leno will wear the No. 19 shirt for this coming season after joining the club from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.
After weeks on intense claims and counter-claims, the goalkeeper joined Arsenal from Leverkusen on June 19 to become the Gunners new head-coach Unai Emery second signing of summer since he took over the reins of the club from Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal’s move for Leno could either see David Ospina or Martinez face the exit door this summer while Petr Cech could be reserved for non crunch fixtures.
The Arsenal followers would have loved to see the goalkeeper given the No. 1 shirt but instead was handed Santi Cazorla’s shirt number who returned to Villarreal earlier this summer.
The goalkeeper will join his new team mates for the first time at London Colney today and he’ll be looking to make a good impression on Emery and his staff ahead of the new season and it’s believed the goalkeeper could be earning closer to what Cech earns (£100,000 a week) at the club.
The shirt No. 5 and No. 12 has been assigned to Sokratis and Stephan Lichtsteiner respectively. The Gunners are in line to complete their fourth signing of the summer in Lucas Torreira who is expected to join the club from Sampdoria this week so it will be interesting to see which number he takes.
Below was there announcement on Twitter and fans were quick to also welcome the goalkeeper while some wished him goodluck with his new side.
