Celtic fans are looking forward to the transfer window to see who the club will be signing this summer with tons of players in all aspect linked with a move to the club.
Celtic lifted their seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title and retained their Scottish Cup to complete a domestic treble. Despite this, their performance in Europe was not impressive having face knockout from both the Champions League and Europa League.
The defence will be an area of concern for the club which Rodgers will be looking to address very much this summer. The Hoops lack a real leader at the back that can make a difference. With that in mind, one man who could solve their problem in this case should be Liverpool defender Joel Matip.
Matip joined Celtic from Schalke on a free move in 2016 and initially made a great start to life at Anfield. However, the Cameroon international has struggled for consistency due to injuries which has seen him fall down the pecking order at Anfield.
The arrival of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton meant that he was no longer a guaranteed started at Liverpool and with speculations linking the club with many more defenders recently, Matip’s future is no longer certain with the club.
Matip, who’s valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, would be an excellent signing for Celtic if they could move for him. The Cameroonian is towering presence at back and shows elegance on the ball. He would add a touch of the class to the side and fit right into Rodgers’ style of play.
