According to reports from the Daily Mirror, Premier League club Southampton have become the latest Premier League team showing interest in signing Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere when his contract expires this summer.
The Englishman’s future with the Premier League club appears to be up in the air. The Daily Mirror reports that Wilshere’s deal expires in July, and while he has been offered a new deal at Arsenal, the Gunners new head-coach has informed him that he will be much closer to his new plans at the club next season.
The report adds that Wilshere has been transfer target top host clubs, with the Saints joining an array of Premier League clubs Wolves and West Ham United who are keen on signing offering the £90,000-a-week a new contract.
Wilshere has obviously struggled with injuries in the past, but he enjoyed a largely uninterrupted campaign last season, and on a free transfer, it is surely worth the gamble.
Of course, the wages will prove incredibly expensive if he is unable to maintain his fitness following a move, but if Hughes does manage to get the best out of the former Bournemouth loanee, the deal has all the potential to go down as a masterstroke from the Saints as they look to ensure that they put last season behind them.
