According to reports from The Sun, Premier League club Manchester United could agree a shock deal for Celtic favourite Craig Gordon this summer, as United boss Jose Mourinho steps up the search to replace their soon to leave goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
Romero, who has registered 38 appearances across all competition since joining the club from Sampdoria in 2015, looks on his way out of the club this summer and will need a replacement. At United, David De Gea is the club’s undisputed first-choice between the sticks, but Mourinho is believed to be considering a strong backup for the Spaniard.
There were report on Sunday that Manchester City outcast Joe Hart was being linked with a shock move to United, but now Gordon could be a surprise signing from Celtic. The 35-year-old joined Celtic in 2014 and has ogne on to nail 200 appearances across all competition, keeping a total 103 clean sheets across all competitions.
He isn’t get any younger, but he’s still a very good shot-stopper who wouldn’t break the bank for 12 months. Gordon has two more years on his deal with Celtic and is still first-choice between the sticks, making 45 appearances in all competitions last season.
United are likely to be linked with a number of goalkeepers while they try to find back-up for De Gea when Romero leaves, but they could do a lot worse than Gordon – a player who has racked up more than 380 appearances in the English Premier League and Scottish Premiership, while racking up 52 caps for the Scotland national team.
